Education Loan for Engineering Students in Karnataka

Education loan subsidies are available to economically weaker engineering students in Karnataka:

Introduction

Education Loans for Engineering Students in Karnataka, along with the Central Government, offer various education loan subsidies to support economically weaker engineering students in pursuing their higher education without financial hardship. These subsidies help reduce the financial burden by either covering the interest during the study period or offering loans at highly concessional rates.

1. Central Sector Interest Subsidy (CSIS)

  • Who it’s for: Students with a family income ≤ ₹4.5 lakh/year pursuing professional/technical courses via an education loan taken after 2009.

  • The Government of India pays the interest that accrues during the moratorium period (course duration + 1 year or 6 months after getting a job)

  • How to get it: Banks should auto-enroll you. If not, you can check on the Canara Bank portal and escalate with the RBI if it’s missing. “It is the responsibility of the branch manager/loan officer to enroll you in the CSIS scheme, requiring zero involvement from your side.”

2. Arivu Education Loan Scheme (KMDC)

  • Who it’s for: Minority students (Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, or Parsi) who are Karnataka residents with an annual family income up to ₹8 lakh.

  • Loan amount: ₹50,000–₹5 lakh/year depending on the course. For engineering, typically up to ₹50k–₹2 lakh/year

  • Interest rate: Very low, usually, sometimes 0% (Reddit)

  • Repayment moratorium: Begins 6 months to 1 year after course completion.

  • Renewal condition: Pay 12% of the previous year's loan amount during renewal

3.  Karnataka Teachers’ Welfare Fund Grant

  • Who it’s for: Engineering students whose parent is a current teacher/lecturer in a government- or aided school/college and is a life member of the Teachers’ Welfare Fund

  • Benefit: One-time grant of up to ₹50,000 towards the interest component of their loan

  • Criteria: The student must be in their final year, have studied 1st–10th in govt/aided Karnataka schools, and have availed a loan from a nationalized bank.

4.  Central Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loans (CGFSEL)

  • Who it’s for: All students taking loans up to ₹7.5 lakh; benefits especially those without collateral or guarantors.

  • What it does: Provides a 75% government guarantee on defaulted loans, helping banks offer collateral-free finance.   Education Loan for Engineering Students in Karnataka will help here.
